What Does Coffee do to Your Skin?
For most people, coffee is an essential part of the morning and on our minds as soon as we wake up. However, what is all this coffee doing to our skin?
Coffee acts as a diuretic, which means it makes our body release water and may lead to dehydration. Without replenishing that water loss, our skin can look dull and can be more prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles.
Coffee also causes the vasoconstriction of our blood vessels, which would lessen blood flow to our skin along with essential nutrients and collagen-building proteins.
Coffee can also worsen certain skin conditions like acne. That's because coffee can increase the stress hormones, such as cortisol, in our bodies and in turn increase the amount of oil produced by our subaceous glands.
Too much coffee can also interfere with our sleep. It is said that 6-8 hours of sleep is needed for skin to properly repair itself and lack of sleep can impede this process.
Don't worry tho, you can still have your cup of coffee in the morning. Just make sure you don't have it in excess and make sure to drink enough water to stay hydrated!
